The third eye chakra (Ajna) will help you recall last night’s dream. Can you imagine how you would like your body to feel tomorrow? Imagine what you will be doing? These imaginative abilities like visualizing the past, creating positive pictures of the future and fantasizing are all aspects of the third eye chakra.
Your third eye chakra has the Sanskrit name, Ajna. It means means both “the perception center” and “the command center.” Associated with the element light and the color indigo blue (yes, I know, the picture could be a little more accurate as it’s verging on purple). The sixth chakra is located between and just above your physical eyes, creating the spiritual third eye. While your two eyes see the material world, your sixth chakra sees beyond the physical. This vision includes clairvoyance, telepathy, intuition, dreaming, imagination, and visualization.
Imbalance Third Eye Chakra
When the third eye has too much energy, you will experience headaches, hallucinations, nightmares, and difficulty concentrating. When this chakra is deficient, you may have a poor memory, experience eye problems, have difficulty recognizing patterns, and can’t visualize well.
Training The Third Eye Chakra
A good way to train this chakra is to blind fold yourself. Temporarily deprived of sight, which provides such a huge percentage of our sensory input, you will have a fresh experience with whatever you are doing. You can’t be distracted by the room, by other people or by looking critically at them. Instead, you experience the drawing inward of the senses.
I have tried this in some of my workshops and the students have experienced profound insights about their bodies and lives. This came about because their vision was directed deeply inside themselves instead of outward.
Another easy way to train this chakra is by touching it so that your attention is directed there. In yoga some practitioners do a supported forward bend, adding an extra bolster or blanket to press upon and stimulate the third eye area. When you try either of these ways make sure you create positive images and visualizations. This helps create a healthy sixth chakra. Such affirmative visions act as natural magnets, drawing the imagined situation into your life.
