Relationships can be difficult and challenging spiritual practices. Attaining enlightenment through relationships can be even more challenging. Relationships give us the opportunity to test our skills of communication, intimacy, authenticity, and integrity. They also give us a chance to retrieve our soul and our spirit. Lifeless Souls
Two numb and lifeless souls do not create a very fulfilling relationship. Everything you do in life is a relationship. You have a relationship with money, a relationship with your body and you even have a relationship with your car. We have a relationships with everything! As humans, we are all interdependent and connected.
True rewarding relationship is a union of two souls who connect from their their spirit centre. Staying centred within yourself and listening with your deepest inner knowing is how we as people relate best. The beauty of relationships are that they awaken the mystery and magic of your soul. We are like two gods creating an amazing and wonderful universe of feelings and experiences together.
Why are “magical” relationships so difficult to attain? First and foremost the element of trust is essential. You must arrive at a place where you trust yourself and other people. It’s essential that you trust the fact that you know how to handle your life and make important decisions. You must also trust the fact that your partner in the relationship knows how to do the same thing.
Align In Integrity
Once trust is in place you can align your words and actions with your integrity and expect the best. You must be reasonable in your expectations so that you don’t place unreasonable demands on your partner. The bottom line is that we all basically want to be honoured and respected exactly as we are. We want to feel safe, nurtured, and protected but also to be validated, loved, and cherished. Ideally we want to make our own choices and have those choices honoured by others. We do not want to be told what to do or how to live our life.
A relationship is a mystery that is created stroke by stroke like a painting on a canvas. Each word we speak, every action we take and each choice we make, is like a stroke on the canvas. Each day, you create a new segment of the painting, and each day, you add colour, nuance, intensity and energy to the relationship. No two canvases are alike, just as no two people are alike. Relationships can be a miracle. It takes us all the way back to God or spirit and depending on your belief system, back to when we were created as as companions.
Life Is A Reflection
Every relationship we have is a reflection of the relationship we have with God. Which is another way of saying our relationships reflect ourselves and who we are. If you believe that God can love you, then you will believe that others can love you too. If you believe you are not good enough for God to love you / not good enough to love yourself – how will you be able to accept the love of others?
This is why attaining enlightenment through relationships is possible. Our relationships are reflections of ourselves and our most aggressive blocks can be found and removed by using the reflection of relationships.
Let’s face it. Most people are not growing very much. They have distanced themselves from being challenged and stretched and they are uncomfortable with change and are afraid to take risks. To protect their vulnerability at all costs, they are unwilling to do healing work. They want quick bandages, and they rush back to the world of stress and illusions, trying to carve out a basic living without understanding the fundamentals of spiritual progress. The very evolution of our society shows the insecurity and fear of the people at large.
Our relationships reflect our insecurities. The old relationships of the past have basically been an exchange of favours. A wife has exchanged sex and companionship for security. A husband exchanged work and leadership of the household for a false sense of fulfilment. This is a marriage of two people living through their lower selves and this is the marriage of the average person.
Ideal Relationships
The ideal relationship will be a blend of both the higher and lower self. In the future we may not have a spouse and marriage certificates to make us feel safe. We will have partners who support our growth and encourage us to do what we love. We will have partners who encourage us to have our own power and express ourselves spontaneously and creatively.
This is the ideal relationship and may occur on a larger scale in the future. Currently this is the life of the minority but its a model, the only one that will work in the long term. As soon as we have individuals who have reached that level of maturity, we will have relationships of quality and spirit. We will have true love that can facilitate the attainment of enlightenment through relationships.
It could be said that spiritual enlightenment is self-actualisation. When you are enlightened, the level of your success in life increases but getting there will depend upon your ability to let go of fear, insecurity and mistaken beliefs.
What is Enlightenment?
Enlightenment is not what you think. It is not about becoming something or gaining something. Rather it’s about giving up something. It is about losing or emptying. Emptying yourselves of your fears and your personal demons. You can achieve enlightenment by becoming personally aware. You can achieve it by peering into your inner core and looking at the shadows and the fears that live there.
Those inner demons are just unloved parts of yourself. Once you find them and love them, you can tap into their vitality and energy, and use their power in your life. When you bring them into your heart by accepting yourself, they are no longer demons. They are “spirit” entities who inspire you and lead you on your heroic journey of life. When you empty our low self of it’s fears and trepidation and live through your higher self, there is room for a higher consciousness to shine through. You must be empty to be filled, and when “God” fills you, you become enlightened.
